The Wild Rice Inn was founded in 2001 in a painted yellow brick farmhouse built in 1891 by Andrew Wahlberg. It was updated in 2001 with stained glass and oriental rugs. The view from the second floor of Lake George, St. Mary's Cathedral (1931), and of the dome of the Stearns County Couthouse (1928) is spectacular anytime but especially at sunset. The Inn is within walking distance of downtown , the Municipal Pool, Eastman City Park, and SCSU. Guests have easy access to walking and bicycle trails along the Mississippi River as well as shopping and dining downtown.
An extended continental breakfast of breads, fruit, cereal, and beverages is served either on the first floor or on the open front porch. Cold beverages and tea are available all day.
Check in is between 4:00-6:00 p.m. unless other arrangements are made. Check out is 11:00 a.m. with no early departure refund.
Reservations are guaranteed with one night's deposit. Full payment is due at time of check in. Payment may be in cash, personal check, traveller's checks. Sorry, no credit cards. Cancellations made within before five days of the date reserved will receive a full refund. Within five days of a reservation, guests will receive a gift certificate for a later stay.
The Wild Rice Inn is unable to accomodate children or pets. In accordance with city ordinances, smoking is not permitted.
The atmosphere of the 10,000 Lakes Room is bright, airy and relaxing. It is a generously-sized bedroom with metal, queen bed situated in a sea of blue, white and yellow hues. The 10,000 Lakes Room has its own seating with white wicker pieces. An oversized sink in the room and a separate shower are convenient for two sharing this room. Amenities include a closet, a clock-radio and cable TV/VCR.

The Lady's Slipper Suite is entered at the top of the stairs through its own sitting room furnished with a chaise lounge and Chinese screen. The bedroom is decorated in the tones associated with Minnesota's state flower; green, white, and muted pinks. A quilted four poster queen bed dominates the room with a twin, white iron daybed along one wall. There is a closet, a clock-radio, desk, and cable TV/VCR. The suite has its own private bath, including a dark pink bathtub, decorated in stencils which were very popular in 1891.
